Wynken - Staff Picks

Posted on August 28 2019

We LOVE Wynken... and here's why you will too...

The joy of being a shop owner and buyer is getting to see all of the amazing products before anyone else does. The challenge is to pick the right products!

Not only the products that people want - because it's easy to copy trends - but the ones that really fit your brand, that speak to you, and; as a result of that tight fit, speak to your customer too. Authenticity is impossible to copy.

As soon as we met Elbe, founder and head designer of Wynken, we knew it was a perfect match. Our good friend Kestin Hare (no slouch as a designer himself and a student pal of Elbe), when he heard that we were looking at Wynken, told us "DO IT! Everything that Elbe does, and everything she did at uni, was and is amazing". Quality, detail, durability, cut, shape, style.. I think Wynken ticks all the boxes. It's so well considered. We call it our "real clothing" option. We have basics (think Mingo, Gray Label, Main Story), PJs (Bright Company), fun, colourful clothing (Jelly Mallow).. and Wynken is real, classic fashion; but the best thing is, kids LOVE it too. It's comfortable, easy to wear and CC loves the Wynken logo a lot.

This particular collection is one of our favourite ever that we've had in store, and we thought it might be fun, and useful, to share our staff picks - what they love, who they'd buy for and where you should wear your Wynken!

Kristina: Oh Wynken! Where do I begin?! This collection honest to goodness has something for everyone and so many standout pieces...as hard as it will be I'll do my best to pick my favourites! I always like to build any outfit from basics upwards. Basics are everything to me (I personally dress in basics almost all the time with very few standout pieces) and since we are usually layering our children here in Scotland a long sleeve tee and leggings never let you down. So first up I have to say the Daily Leggings and the Demi Turtlenecks (in lilac and black) as they straddle the line between fashion and function. They are basics, yes, but also they have an edge to them with the ribs and the cuts. Next up for me would be the Wide Tailored Pant in Denim because DENIM. I live in denim and while some people shy away from this material for kids, it can work really really well when it's done right. Wynken do a really soft denim, so it's not restrictive at all. It's also got that awesome culotte style leg that looks so chic I can't even!

For the babies, Fur Suit anyone? I mean, come on. I think these will make great outfits as well as outerwear and they are GUARANTEED to score you compliments on how cute your kid is..and how great your taste is :)The Baby Hancock Slouch Pant also got me in my feelings, because you don't see a ton of babies in cords these days and it is SO CUTE. Little mini trousers, I can't.  And I'd pair these with the Baby Daily Sweat and just go hard with contrasting textures!

Sarah Absolute favourite piece of the Wynken collection is this lace dress. Both Aoife and I loved it as soon as we saw it. It would look so good over her basics and with her new tartan boots. I imagine she’d never want to take it off.

My other two choices would be this sweatshirt and these cords. I love that they are completely unisex and would look great on both boys and girls. I love cords because they are so hard wearing and the quality of these ones is exceptional as with all the Wynken pieces. I love that they have an elastic waist making it easy for kids to take themselves to the toilet - a massive win in my book. I’m obsessed with the sweatshirt as I just want to cuddle it. It looks so good with the cords and would work with so many things Aoife already has in her wardrobe which is something I’m always thinking about.

NatalieMy favourite baby piece without a doubt is the ecru fur onesie. It’s what my baby-polar-bear dreams are made of, and even though there’s a risk of stains and spills, it’s machine washable. I love how cuddly it is, and if you can disguise your child as a furry animal, why not? I would buy this for my close friends’ newborn baby girl to wear on chilly outings.

For my big kids’ favourite, I was immediately drawn to the smoke blue corduroy shirt jacket. Ever since I read Goodnight Mister Tom as a child, I’ve had a weird obsession with corduroy (in a poignant scene, Mister Tom buys the child some corduroy trousers- I think). This shirt jacket is such great quality and a fantastic muted blue that you don’t often find. I would buy it for my past self and wear it while playing on my parents’ dairy farm.  #wholesome (but also super chic).

Kate: The lilac 'Batafurai' blouse has an appealing vintage feel to it. My daughter is butterfly-mad and this blouse is half flamboyant (check out the cuffs!) but somehow manages to stay minimalist-cool (the appliqué butterflies in matching fabric are so lovely and understated)

The baby cardigan in clay pink is a very special piece. The chunky alpaca-mix yarn will wear so well and last for generations if cared for. Moreover the excellent boxy cut of these cardigans mean you can wear them lots of ways as your baby grows. The finishing touch of the small winking “Wynken” logo is playful and cute. I’d get this for a niece or nephew to wear year round in the Scottish climate.
